Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the Director-General of Media and Publicity for the Kano State Government, has announced the tragic passing of his 15-year-old son, Sadiq Modibbo Bature, who died shortly after a bone marrow transplant in India.

Sadiq had battled sickle cell anemia since birth, and in a bid to improve his health, underwent a bone marrow transplant. Sadly, complications following the surgery affected his brain, leading to his death just days after the procedure. In a heartfelt social media post, Sanusi Bature described Sadiq as a bright and gentle young boy who showed immense resilience throughout his life.

The spokesperson for Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf expressed deep sorrow, noting the immense pain of losing his first child. He shared, “My son, Modibbo, who has suffered from sickle cell anemia all his life, underwent a successful bone marrow transplant in an Indian hospital this month. Tragically, he passed away due to post-surgery complications affecting his brain.”

He continued, “Sadiq’s remains will be brought back home in a few days for burial in my hometown, Dawakin-Tofa, following Islamic rites. The exact date and time will be announced when his body arrives.”

The burial is expected to take place this weekend, in accordance with Islamic traditions, at Dawakin-Tofa.
