On Sunday, Nigerian police officers reportedly used tear gas and fired shots to forcibly disperse protesters gathered at the #EndSARS bus stop, formerly the Lekki Tollgate, in Lagos State. The protesters had come together to pay tribute to those who lost their lives during the #EndSARS protests against police brutality in October 2020.

According to eyewitnesses, the peaceful assembly quickly turned chaotic when police officers began shooting into the air and releasing tear gas to scatter the crowd. In the ensuing confusion, many demonstrators fled for safety, while at least two individuals were arrested.

A source confirmed the arrests but noted that the identities of those detained have not been made public yet. The police are yet to release an official statement addressing the incident or explaining the use of force during the memorial event.

The #EndSARS bus stop has become a symbolic location for protests since the tragic events of October 20, 2020, when Nigerian security forces opened fire on unarmed protesters at the Lekki Tollgate.
