A 29-year-old man, Shehu Garuba, was brought before an Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, accused of stealing an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) card and withdrawing N810,000 from the owner’s account. Garuba, who has no fixed address, faces a charge of theft.

Inspector Moyosola Adesola, the prosecutor, informed the court that Garuba, along with another suspect who is still at large, committed the alleged crime on September 23 at about 6:00 p.m. at the premises of Access Bank located on Bank Road in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

According to Adesola, the defendant is accused of stealing an ATM card belonging to Adewunmi Moses and withdrawing N810,000 from his account. The offence, she said, violates Section 295(1)(b) of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021. She requested the court to grant time to review the case file and prepare her witnesses.

Garuba, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge. His counsel, Joy Raphael, appealed to the court to release him on bail, assuring that Garuba would not evade trial.

Chief Magistrate Bankole Oluwasanmi granted Garuba bail in the sum of N100,000, with one surety in like amount. The case was adjourned until October 30 for hearing.
