The Imo State Commissioner of Police, CP Aboki Danjuma, has instructed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the IGP X-Squad to carry out a thorough investigation into allegations made by actor Young C Entertainment against the Command’s Anti-Narcotics Unit and the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Owerri.
In a viral video, Young C claimed that on October 11, 2024, he and his team traveled from Port Harcourt to Owerri for a movie shoot. Due to security concerns, they were advised to use prop money during filming. After the shoot, they were stopped and searched by officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit, who found the prop money. Despite explaining that the money was for the movie, Young C alleged that the officers arrested them and demanded N1.5 million for their release.
Young C stated that the officers ignored their explanations, took them to their office, and detained them for 24 hours. During this time, their phones were confiscated, and they were not allowed to contact family, lawyers, or production members. He added that when his lawyer arrived, the police demanded N300,000 for their release, which both he and his lawyer refused to pay.
Young C further alleged that numerous other Nigerians were being unlawfully detained by the unit for baseless reasons and urged the Inspector General of Police to investigate the matter. He also mentioned the possibility of taking legal action against the officers involved in the unlawful arrest of him and his crew.
Responding to these claims, the spokesperson for the Imo State Police Command, ASP Henry Okoye, stated that the Commissioner of Police had ordered an immediate investigation into the allegations. He assured the public that any officer found guilty would face disciplinary action as per the Force’s regulations, and their supervising officer would also be held accountable.
ASP Okoye also urged Young C and his film crew to cooperate with the investigation by reporting to the IGP X-Squad in Owerri to provide further information. He reiterated the Command’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights of all citizens.
