A tragic incident has unfolded in Delta State, where a newly appointed Divisional Police Officer (DPO) at the Agbarho police station has reportedly been killed. This officer had just assumed his post a few days prior in the Ughelli North Local Government Area.

According to sources, his counterpart in Orerokpo, identified only as CSP Paul, is currently on life support at an undisclosed hospital following the ambush.

SaharaReporters learned that distress calls were received around 1:30 a.m. on Monday, indicating that individuals had been kidnapped and their vehicle was stranded near the Agbarho railway station.

A witness stated, “The new DPO quickly contacted his Orerokpo colleague, and they both mobilized to the scene. Unfortunately, they fell into an ambush set by the kidnappers, who opened fire on them.”

The Agbarho DPO was killed in the attack, while CSP Paul sustained serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital. Reports also indicate that other officers who were part of the team were killed, but the exact number remains unclear.

The DPO had only been in his position for two days, and as of now, his wife is reportedly staying in a hotel, unaware of her husband’s fate.

Efforts to reach Delta State Police Public Relations Officer SP Bright Edafe for comments were unsuccessful, as he did not respond to calls or text messages.
