Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has pledged to arrest infamous bandit kingpin, Bello Turji, who is widely known for terrorizing the Northwestern region of Nigeria, particularly Zamfara State. Turji, feared by many, has been linked to numerous violent attacks and recently imposed a levy of N30 million on Zamfara residents, allegedly offering them protection from further attacks.

While speaking to journalists in Abuja on Tuesday, Musa described Turji as a “deranged” criminal, expressing confidence that his capture is imminent. He reassured the public that the military is working swiftly to bring Turji to justice, and measures are being taken to address the bandit’s tactic of extorting residents.

Musa stated, “Regarding Turji, as I’ve mentioned before, he’s just a disturbed individual who feels emboldened by a false sense of power. But I can assure you, it’s only a matter of time before we catch him, and it will be soon. We are also tackling the issue of bandits imposing levies, which is how they sustain their operations.”

The CDS highlighted the desperation within the ranks of bandits like Turji, noting that despite receiving ransom money, they struggle to utilize it effectively. He emphasized the importance of communities working with the military and security forces to disrupt bandit movements and deny them the freedom to operate.

“We must unite and support our armed forces and security agencies in preventing these criminals from moving freely within our communities,” Musa added.
