
In a landmark decision, Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State has appointed Barrister Aber Serumun Deborah as the new Secretary to the State Government (SSG), making her the first woman to hold the position in the state. This appointment follows the resignation of the former SSG, Professor Joseph Alakali.
The news was confirmed in a statement released by the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Sir Tersoo Kula. According to the statement, Professor Alakali tendered his resignation, citing the need to address personal challenges. Governor Alia, upon accepting the resignation, expressed his appreciation for Alakali’s service, which spanned a year and three months. He wished the outgoing SSG well and prayed for his success in overcoming his personal challenges.
The newly appointed SSG, Barrister Aber, is a highly experienced solicitor and arbitrator with a strong background in legal analysis and teamwork. Known for her commitment to excellence, she brings with her a wealth of experience and a proven record of service. Barrister Aber, who holds degrees from the University of Jos and Nasarawa State University, is expected to contribute significantly to the success of the Alia administration.
Governor Alia expressed confidence that Barrister Aber’s experience and integrity would enhance his government. He urged her to align her efforts with the administration’s goals and prioritize the state’s interests in her daily duties.
The appointment of Barrister Aber takes immediate effect, with Governor Alia urging her to stay focused on the vision of the government as outlined in its working document.
Governor Alia is a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the ruling party in Benue State.
