The Federal Ministry of Works has terminated contracts with Mothercat Ltd, Dantata & Sawoe Construction Ltd, and RCC Ltd. These terminations affect the dualization projects of the Obajana-Benin road: section II (Okene–Auchi) in Kogi/Edo State, section III (Auchi–Ehor) in Edo State, and section IV (Ehor–Benin) in Edo State.
This decision was made due to significant delays by the companies in fulfilling their contractual obligations. Their failure to adhere to the Standard Conditions of Contract has led to prolonged project timelines and the contracts’ expiration. Originally awarded on December 3, 2012, the projects have been neglected by the contractors, causing hardship for road users due to the poor condition of the roads.
The Honourable Minister has instructed the engineers to take over the sites and works from these companies. They are also directed to arrange joint measurements of the work completed so far with the contractors. This action does not preclude the Federal Government from exercising other rights under the contract.
The Minister emphasized that the Ministry will not tolerate negligence and sabotage from contractors, which hinder progress. He warned that the government would continue to terminate funded but non-performing projects.
