A female suicide bomber detonated an improvised explosive device (IED) at a wedding in Gwoza town, Borno State, resulting in the deaths of six guests and injuring sixteen others.

The attack occurred on Saturday, June 29, at Tashan Mararaba near the Fire Service in Gwoza town. The bomber, who had a baby on her back, detonated the IED upon arriving at the venue.

Borno State Commissioner of Police, Yusuf Lawal, confirmed the attack in a press briefing in Maiduguri, the state capital. He reported that the Divisional Police Officer in Gwoza informed him that six people were killed, and fifteen others were taken to the hospital.

The injured are currently receiving treatment at the General Hospital in Gwoza.

In response to the attack, the military has imposed a curfew in Gwoza with immediate effect.
