The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has declared his continued support for the Gwagwalada Area Council Chairman, Mohammed Kasim, praising his leadership and commitment to the welfare and development of the people.
Wike made the remarks on Monday during the commissioning of the Nyesom Wike Town Hall in Gwagwalada, where he expressed satisfaction with the performance of the council chairman, describing him as a leader who genuinely has the interests of Gwagwalada residents at heart.
The minister said he was proud of what Kasim was doing in the area council, noting that his commitment to community development and the welfare of residents had demonstrated a clear sense of responsibility and leadership.
Recounting his first encounter with the council chairman, Wike disclosed that Kasim had approached him with specific requests centred on the development and recognition of the Gwagwalada community rather than personal interests.
According to the minister, one of Kasim’s initial requests was for the elevation of a Gwari traditional ruler, alongside intervention in a road project in Zuba, which he disclosed was expected to be commissioned in December.
Wike described the requests as evidence of a chairman whose priorities were firmly rooted in the interests of his people, adding that such commitment deserved recognition and support.
Speaking on the newly commissioned town hall named after him, the minister expressed admiration for the structure, describing it as the most beautiful edifice he had seen among the various area councils in the FCT.
He said the gesture of naming the facility after him was particularly meaningful, expressing appreciation on behalf of his family and members of his staff for the honour and recognition extended to him by the Gwagwalada Area Council.
Wike further pledged to sustain his partnership with the council, assuring residents that he would continue to support initiatives aimed at improving infrastructure and promoting development in the area.
He maintained that Kasim had demonstrated commendable leadership and deserved the cooperation and backing of stakeholders, urging political leaders and other influential figures in Gwagwalada to put aside their differences and work collectively for the progress of the people.
The minister stressed that political disagreements should not be allowed to undermine development, insisting that the collective interests of residents must take precedence over individual ambitions and political considerations.
He called on stakeholders to embrace unity, cooperation and a shared commitment to development, noting that the growth of Gwagwalada would require the collective efforts of its political leadership and other relevant actors.
