A cultural-day celebration in Okpuma community, Amasiri, Ebonyi State, has taken a disturbing turn following the alleged assault of a man identified as Musa Abdullahi, who reportedly suffered a serious leg injury while his mobile phone was allegedly taken and the motorcycle he was travelling on confiscated.

According to information gathered by Chronicles Reporters, Musa and some colleagues were travelling on a motorcycle when they encountered youths who reportedly told them that movement was restricted because the community was observing its cultural day.

The group allegedly explained that they were unaware of the restriction and attempted to turn back, but the situation reportedly escalated when youths pursued them and Musa was allegedly beaten.

Photographs seen by Chronicles Reporters show visible bruising and marks on Musa’s back and shoulder. The newspaper has also confirmed information indicating that he sustained a serious injury to his leg during the incident.

Beyond the reported assault, Musa’s mobile phone was allegedly taken, while the motorcycle he was travelling on was reportedly confiscated.

The development has raised questions about how the cultural-day movement restriction was enforced and whether community rules were allegedly enforced through violence and the seizure of personal property.

It is not yet clear who authorised the restriction, how it was communicated to people entering the area, or the identities of those alleged to have assaulted Musa and taken possession of the phone and motorcycle.

Chronicles Reporters is also seeking clarification on whether the incident has been reported to the police and whether any investigation or recovery of the alleged confiscated property has taken place.

The community leadership, eyewitnesses and the Ebonyi State Police Command are expected to provide their accounts of the incident.

The newspaper is particularly seeking clarification on the circumstances surrounding Musa’s leg injury, the whereabouts of his motorcycle and phone, and whether any arrests have been made.

The incident remains under investigation, and the allegations against the unidentified youths have not been independently established in court. Chronicles Reporters will publish responses from the community leadership, police or any other parties involved as they become available.
