The legal battle between Chronicles Reporters News Limited and the Executive Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council has taken a fresh turn following the adjournment of the matter to October 28, 2026, for definite hearing.

The case, filed as Suit No. M/166/2026, came up on July 6, 2026, for the hearing of the Applicant’s Motion on Notice for Judicial Review seeking an Order of Mandamus.

According to a court update issued by GrayLaw Practice LP, counsel to the Applicant, Peter Chidiebere Nworie, Esq., and counsel to the Defendants, I.A. Aliyu, Esq., were present for purposes of taking a further date, although the parties themselves were absent.

The matter was not heard on the scheduled day.

The court, exercising its discretion, directed counsel to take a date off record after the court observed that the cause list could not be exhausted because the day had become far spent.

Consequently, the matter was adjourned to October 28, 2026, for definite hearing.

The suit represents another significant legal development in the continuing dispute involving Chronicles Reporters News Limited and the leadership of Gwagwalada Area Council.

At the centre of the proceeding is the Applicant’s request for judicial review and an Order of Mandamus, a judicial remedy that can, where the legal requirements are satisfied, compel a public authority or public officer to perform a public duty required by law.

The October 28 hearing will therefore provide the next formal opportunity for the parties to present their respective positions before the court.

The court update was signed by Peter Chidiebere Nworie, Esq., Managing Partner of GrayLaw Practice LP, on behalf of the Applicant’s legal representation.

The adjournment also provides additional time for the parties and their respective legal teams to prepare for the substantive hearing.

Importantly, the July 6 proceedings did not determine the substantive issues raised in the suit. The case remains pending, and the claims and positions of the respective parties remain subject to determination by the court.

For Chronicles Reporters, the October 28 date is now a significant date in the legal calendar as the newspaper awaits the judicial determination of the issues placed before the court.

The matter will be closely monitored as proceedings continue.
