Omoyele Sowore, presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has disclosed that the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye, prayed for him and expressed confidence in his “triumph” ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Sowore made the disclosure on Sunday, October 4, 2026, after attending a National Thanksgiving Service at the RCCG headquarters in Ebute Metta, Lagos.
The AAC candidate said he attended the service following an invitation from the church, alongside the National Chairman of the African Action Congress, Pastor Samuel Ajeigbe.
According to Sowore, he later held a private meeting and conversation with Adeboye, during which the RCCG General Overseer offered to pray for him.
“After the service, I had a private meeting and conversation with the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, who offered to pray for me,” Sowore said.
He quoted Adeboye as saying that he follows his activities “religiously”, describing Sowore’s path as “honourable” and expressing confidence in his “triumph.”
“He stated that he follows my activities religiously, expressed certainty that my path is honorable, and said he is confident of my triumph,” Sowore said.
The encounter between the cleric and the AAC presidential candidate comes ahead of the 2027 presidential election, in which Sowore is seeking the presidency under the platform of the African Action Congress.
Sowore also revealed that Sunday’s meeting was not his first encounter with Adeboye at the same location.
According to him, their first meeting took place in 1996, shortly after he completed his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
He said the meeting occurred at a time when he was involved in mobilisation against campus cultism and what he described as the “free reigns of cult gangs.”
“Interestingly, this was my second meeting with Pastor Adeboye at the same venue. Our first meeting was in 1996, shortly after I completed my National Youth Service Corps (NYSC),” he said.
“And met him while mobilizing the unlicensed against deadly campus cultism and the free reigns of cult gangs.”
Reflecting on the passage of time between both encounters, Sowore said, “Thirty years later, we met again at the same place.”
He expressed appreciation for the reception he received from members of the church, as well as the private conversation and prayers offered by Adeboye.
“I deeply appreciate the warm reception of members of the church, and our private conversation, and his prayers,” he said.
However, Sowore stressed that his attendance at the church service should not be interpreted as an attempt to use the occasion for political campaigning.
“It is important to state that my visit was not intended to promote a political agenda,” he said.
The RCCG headquarters in Ebute Metta has hosted national thanksgiving services attended by political leaders, government officials and other public figures.
The development is also notable because Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, is an ordained pastor in the RCCG.
Sowore’s disclosure of Adeboye’s prayer and reported expression of confidence in his “triumph” has placed the encounter in the public spotlight as political activities and positioning ahead of the 2027 presidential election continue.
