In a decisive move to strengthen governance and accelerate grassroots development, the Executive Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council has unveiled a sweeping leadership overhaul with the appointment and swearing-in of 15 key political office holders, signalling a renewed commitment to efficient public service delivery, accountability, and inclusive governance.
The newly inaugurated officials comprise seven Senior Special Assistants (SSAs), a Council Secretary, and seven Supervisory Councillors, who are expected to provide strategic leadership across critical sectors of the council’s administration.
Leading the appointments is Chief Agu Okechukwu Samuel, who was sworn in as Council Secretary, alongside the following Supervisory Councillors:
- Abubakar Ibrahim – Special Duties
- Hon. Umar Faruk Abubakar – Health and Primary Health Care
- Garba Jibrin – Agriculture and Natural Resources
- Arc. Suleiman Mohammed – Works, Land and Survey
- Adamu Dahiru Danbaba – Environmental and Sanitation
- Mahmud Musa Wambai – Finance and Economic Planning
- Hon. Caleb D. Yakubu – Education and Social Development
The Chairman also inaugurated seven Senior Special Assistants to provide specialised support in key areas of governance. They include:
- Umar Zagoi – Community Needs Assessment and Engagement
- Hon. Umar Danbai – Adult and Non-Formal Education
- Yusuf Isah – Revenue Generation and Mobilisation
- Umar Inuwa Guzau – Youth Development
- Mohammed Isah Hassan – Media and Publicity
- Maimunat Mohammed Amoh – Women Affairs
- Garba Salihu – Political and Public Mobilisation
Addressing the newly sworn-in officials, the Chairman described their appointments as a call to selfless service and urged them to discharge their responsibilities with integrity, transparency, professionalism, and dedication to the people of Gwagwalada.
He emphasised that the administration’s vision is to build a responsive and people-centred council where effective leadership translates into tangible improvements in infrastructure, healthcare, education, environmental sanitation, revenue generation, youth and women empowerment, and community engagement.
The Chairman further stressed that the success of his administration would be measured not by promises but by performance, warning that every appointee would be expected to justify the confidence reposed in them through measurable results and unwavering commitment to public service.
Among the appointments attracting significant attention is that of Mohammed Isah Hassan as Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, a position expected to strengthen the council’s communication architecture by ensuring timely dissemination of government activities, promoting transparency, fostering public engagement, and enhancing the flow of information between the council and residents.
Political stakeholders and residents who witnessed the inauguration described the appointments as a strategic effort to reinforce the administrative machinery of the Area Council and position the government to deliver more effectively on its development agenda.
The new leadership team is expected to play a pivotal role in driving policy implementation, improving institutional efficiency, strengthening collaboration across departments, and advancing sustainable grassroots development throughout Gwagwalada Area Council.
