The United Kingdom Civil Aviation Authority (UK CAA) has written to Nigeria’s Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) alleging that Air Peace has violated some aviation safety regulations. This development comes just three months after the Nigerian carrier began operating its Lagos-London route.
The UK CAA reportedly sent two mandatory occurrence reports on Air Peace to the NCAA. The CAA’s letter, forwarded to the NCAA, was titled “United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report” with reference number: CAA-UK-2024-0217, and “NATS Management System Safety Report.”
In response, the NCAA has written to Air Peace seeking clarification on the issues raised. The letter, with reference number: NCAA/DOLTS/APL/Vol.11/03624, was titled “United Kingdom SAFA Ramp Inspection Report.” It was dated May 14, 2024, and signed by NCAA General Manager of Operations, Capt. O.O. Lawani.
The NCAA’s letter highlighted that the UK CAA had called attention to the lack of operational approval for Electronic Flight Bag (EFB) functions, which affects the safe operation of the aircraft. The captain of the flight reportedly admitted to using an EFB for navigational purposes. The CAA’s letter also noted the absence of a mounting device for the EFB, as well as no charging points or battery backup.
Air Peace recently began operations to London Gatwick from Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, under the Bilateral Air Services Agreement between Nigeria and the UK.
Attempts to reach the spokesperson of Air Peace, Stanley Olisa, were unsuccessful. When contacted, the spokesperson answered the call but remained silent when inquiries were made, and the call eventually ended. A text message sent to the spokesperson also went unanswered at the time of filing this report.
