The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has formally announced former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, as the running mate to its 2027 presidential candidate, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

In a statement issued on Monday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said Amaechi’s selection followed extensive consultations with party leaders, stakeholders across the federation, and coalition partners.

The party described the decision as the outcome of its concluded presidential primary process, in which Amaechi emerged as runner-up, noting that his performance and political experience made him a strategic choice for the vice-presidential slot.

According to the ADC, the Atiku-Amaechi ticket represents a “unity and rescue mission” aimed at repositioning Nigeria and offering voters a credible alternative ahead of the 2027 general election.

The statement highlighted Amaechi’s long political career, including his tenure as Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, two-term Governor of Rivers State, and Minister of Transportation, where he oversaw major rail and transport infrastructure projects.

It added that his experience across both legislative and executive arms of government, as well as his political influence in the South-South, would strengthen the party’s national spread and electoral prospects.

“The proposed partnership between Atiku Abubakar and Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is a coming together of two tested statesmen with the capacity to provide leadership, restore confidence in governance, and drive national development,” the statement read.

The party further urged members and supporters nationwide to rally behind the ticket, describing it as a broad-based coalition designed to address Nigeria’s security, economic, and governance challenges.

With the announcement, the ADC has effectively positioned the Atiku-Amaechi combination as its flagship ticket for the 2027 presidential contest.
