Following a visit by the governor, the Speaker of the assembly, Amaewhule, addressed reporters, accusing Fubara of defying a court order. During a tour of the premises, Amaewhule emphasized the building’s structural integrity, refuting any need for renovation. He asserted that the governor’s presence was unauthorized and unnecessary.
Another House member, Justina Emeji, urged the international community and concerned individuals to intervene and restrain the governor. The Amaewhule-led assembly rejected claims by Fubara’s supporters of a new Speaker’s election, affirming the continuity of Martin Amaewhule, Dumle Maol, and Major Jack as Speaker, Deputy Speaker, and Majority Leader respectively.
In a statement by Emeka Amadi, the House’s clerk, it was clarified that the leadership structure remains unchanged, with the exception of the vacant Khana II constituency seat. The statement also noted the continued suspension of Victor Oko Jumbo, Sokari Goodboy, and Adolphus Timothy since October last year.
