The Bauchi State Government has ordered the immediate closure of all cattle markets across 25 locations in four local government areas following rising insecurity in the state.
The affected markets are spread across Alkaleri, Bauchi, Kirfi, and Tafawa Balewa Local Government Areas, with the shutdown taking effect immediately.
According to a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the governor, Mukhtar Mohammed Gidado, the decision was taken in response to growing security threats linked to cattle rustling, kidnapping, killings, and extortion.
The breakdown shows 14 markets closed in Alkaleri, five each in Kirfi and Tafawa Balewa, and one in Bauchi Local Government Area.
The state government said the measure was approved to curb economic losses and protect lives and property in affected communities.
Security agencies have been directed to enforce compliance with the closure order, which will remain in place until further notice.
Authorities also urged traditional rulers and community leaders to sensitise residents and ensure adherence to the directive as monitoring operations continue across the affected areas.
