A legal firestorm is brewing in Akure following allegations of a brutal assault on a woman, Mrs. Oladipupo Taiwo, by operatives of the Amotekun Corps.
In a public statement released on March 26, 2026, human rights lawyer Tope Temokun confirmed that formal petitions have been submitted to key authorities in Ondo State, demanding urgent justice and accountability over the incident.
According to the statement, the petitions were addressed to the Ondo State Governor, the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Kayode Ajulo (SAN), and the leadership of the state security outfit, Amotekun Corps.
The petitions detail what was described as a “disturbing and near-fatal assault” on Mrs. Taiwo, which reportedly left her at risk of losing her sight. Her legal team also accused the operatives of unlawfully seizing her mobile phones during the encounter.
Barrister Temokun emphasized that the demands go beyond justice for the victim, calling for:
• An immediate and transparent investigation into the incident
• The return of all confiscated personal belongings
• Adequate medical care and compensation for the victim
• Structural reforms within Amotekun to curb what he described as “serial abuses”
The statement further revealed that initial attempts by the victim to seek redress were met with what was termed “denial and intimidation,” raising serious concerns about accountability within the security outfit.
“This case is not just about one woman,” the statement stressed. “It speaks to a broader issue of citizens’ safety and the growing concern over abuse of power under the guise of security enforcement.”
The development has sparked renewed conversations around human rights, rule of law, and the operational conduct of regional security agencies in Nigeria.
