A group identifying itself as Concerned Citizens has fired a strongly-worded official statement at Mrs. Tracy Ohiri, accusing her of deliberately misleading the public in a recent video regarding a supposed N300 million debt collection deal involving Minister Dave Umahi and Barrister Marshall Abubakar.

In the statement dated March 19, 2026 and signed by Sydney Usman Godwin on behalf of the group, the Concerned Citizens described Ohiri’s claims as “unsubstantiated” and damaging to the reputation of the respected legal practitioner.

The statement reads in part:

“We are compelled to address a pressing matter regarding a statement made in your recent video, alleging that Barr. Marshall Abubakar failed to collect N300,000,000 from Dave Umahi as agreed, and instead, he returned $70,000 (N110,000,000).”

The group went further to set the record straight with four key clarifications:

  1. Barr. Marshall Abubakar collected only $70,000 from the Minister’s camp through Mr. Joseph, and no additional amount was ever collected.
  2. The claim of a N300 million contract is completely unfounded, and it appears Mrs. Ohiri unilaterally inflated the original N25 million she claimed was owed to her.
  3. Mr. Sowore’s involvement was purely a humanitarian effort and had nothing to do with debt collection on behalf of Mrs. Ohiri.
  4. Mrs. Ohiri is demanded to tender an unreserved apology to Barr. Marshall Abubakar for “misleading the public and dragging his reputation through the mud.”

In what appears to be a bold counter-move, the Concerned Citizens revealed that Barr. Marshall Abubakar has authorised them to demand 10% of the total sum as legal fees for “debt collection” services allegedly rendered. The deadline given is on or before Sunday, 22nd March 2026.

“Failure to comply will result in legal actions from Monday, 23rd March 2026,” the statement warned.

The letter concluded: “This serves as a formal notification.”

Chronicles Reporters gathered that the statement is already generating heated reactions on social media, with many Nigerians questioning the credibility of the initial video claim by Mrs. Tracy Ohiri.

As at press time, Mrs. Ohiri is yet to respond to the demands. Barr. Marshall Abubakar also declined comments when contacted, saying the matter is now in the hands of his authorised representatives.

The unfolding drama has once again thrown the spotlight on the murky intersection of politics, money and reputation management in Nigeria’s public space.
