The Russian government has strongly criticised the United States and Israel over reported airstrikes on Iranian targets, describing the operation as a deliberate and unjustified act of armed aggression.

In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Moscow accused Washington and Tel Aviv of escalating tensions in the Middle East while diplomatic engagements were said to be ongoing.

According to the statement, Russia considers the strikes a violation of international law and the principles of the United Nations Charter. The Foreign Ministry characterised the attacks as premeditated and carried out under the cover of a resumed negotiation process, which it said undermines efforts toward peaceful resolution.

While condemning the military action, Moscow signalled its willingness to play a mediating role. The ministry stated that Russia remains ready to assist in facilitating dialogue and exploring peaceful solutions to prevent further escalation.

The reaction from Moscow comes amid growing global concern over the widening confrontation. European Union leaders, including Ursula von der Leyen, have also described the developments as deeply troubling and called for maximum restraint, civilian protection and respect for international law.

The latest tensions followed coordinated airstrikes reportedly carried out by the United States and Israel on February 28, targeting Iranian facilities linked to its nuclear and missile programmes. Iran responded with missile attacks on U.S. and Israeli positions in the region, leading to casualties and heightening fears of broader instability.

Diplomatic efforts are intensifying, with several world leaders urging a return to negotiations to avoid further deterioration of security in the Middle East.
