French President Emmanuel Macron has called for an urgent meeting of the United Nations Security Council as tensions intensify following the outbreak of hostilities involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
In a statement posted Saturday on his official X account, Macron warned that the confrontation carries serious consequences for international peace and regional stability. He described the situation as a critical turning point requiring swift diplomatic intervention to prevent further escalation.
The French leader said his government is taking precautionary measures to safeguard French territory, citizens abroad and strategic interests, particularly in the Middle East. He added that France stands ready to support allied nations if necessary and could mobilise appropriate resources to protect key partners.
Macron stressed that the escalating military exchanges are dangerous for all parties and must stop. He urged Iran to return to negotiations addressing its nuclear and ballistic missile programmes, as well as regional security concerns, arguing that diplomacy remains the only sustainable path forward.
He also said long-term stability in the Middle East requires renewed political dialogue and greater opportunities for citizens to determine their future freely.
As part of France’s diplomatic push, Macron confirmed that Paris is consulting closely with European allies and regional partners while advocating for immediate deliberations at the UN Security Council.
The call comes amid growing global anxiety over the widening confrontation. U.S. President Donald Trump earlier announced the commencement of major combat operations targeting Iran, stating that the campaign aims to neutralise Tehran’s nuclear and missile capabilities.
Meanwhile, Iran’s foreign ministry accused Washington and Israel of carrying out what it described as unlawful military aggression and warned that its armed forces are prepared to respond.
International observers say the coming days will be crucial in determining whether diplomatic channels can contain the crisis or whether the conflict risks expanding further across the region.
