The Nigerian government has issued a safety advisory to its citizens living in Iran and neighbouring Gulf countries following escalating military tensions involving Israel, the United States and Iran.
In a statement released on Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it is closely monitoring developments in the Middle East, describing the security situation as volatile and unpredictable.
The advisory was signed by the Ministry’s spokesperson, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, who urged Nigerians in the affected regions to exercise heightened caution.
The government warned citizens to avoid strategic and sensitive sites such as military installations, government buildings and other potential flashpoints that could become targets amid ongoing hostilities.
Nigerians were also advised to steer clear of protests, demonstrations and large public gatherings, which could quickly turn unsafe under the current conditions. The Ministry encouraged citizens to limit non-essential travel within affected countries until the situation stabilises.
“Given the heightened state of tension and the potential for further escalations, Nigerians are advised to maintain constant vigilance and remain conscious of their environment,” the statement noted.
The Ministry disclosed that the Nigerian Embassy in Tehran, along with diplomatic missions in Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, has been directed to intensify communication with Nigerian nationals and prepare to provide necessary assistance.
According to the government, the embassies will facilitate emergency communication and consular support for citizens who may require help as events unfold.
The Federal Government reaffirmed that safeguarding Nigerians abroad remains a top priority and pledged to continue assessing the situation while issuing updates when necessary.
It also called on all parties involved in the conflict to exercise restraint and return to dialogue, warning that further escalation could have serious implications not only for the Middle East but for global peace and economic stability.
