Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Mike Ozekhome, is currently in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and is expected to face fresh charges over alleged fraud linked to a disputed property in London, United Kingdom.
A top intelligence source confirmed on Tuesday that the senior lawyer is being held by the anti-graft agency, shortly after a separate case against him was struck out by the Federal Capital Territory High Court.
Earlier in the day, the FCT High Court sitting in Maitama dismissed a three-count forgery charge filed against Ozekhome by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), following an application by the Federal Government to withdraw the suit.
The case, filed under Charge No: FCT/HC/CR/010/26, bordered on allegations that Ozekhome forged documents in relation to ownership claims over a property located at 79 Randall Avenue, London NW2 7SX.
The Office of the Attorney-General of the Federation, led by Lateef Fagbemi, had taken over prosecution of the matter from the ICPC in January 2026. During proceedings on Tuesday, prosecution counsel Rotimi Oyedepo informed the court that the Federal Government required time to review and consolidate issues involving multiple investigating agencies.
Justice Peter Kekemeke subsequently struck out the charge.
The allegations against Ozekhome stem from a protracted legal dispute over the London property, which was the subject of proceedings before the UK First-tier Tribunal (Property Chamber) in 2025. In a ruling delivered by Judge Ewan Paton, the tribunal held that the property belonged to the estate of the late Jeremiah Useni, a former Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and senior military officer.
The tribunal dismissed claims presented by individuals identified as “Mr.” and “Ms.” Tali Shani, describing them as impostors, and concluded that forged documents had been used during the proceedings.
While the earlier forgery case has been withdrawn, sources indicate that the EFCC is preparing fresh charges against the senior lawyer. As of press time, the Commission has yet to issue an official statement detailing the nature of the new allegations.
