Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised 29 terrorists in coordinated offensives across Borno State and Yobe State between Saturday and Sunday.
The operations targeted terrorist positions in Lamusheri Village, Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe State, as well as the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Limankara and Kukawa in Borno State.
In a statement on Sunday, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East, Lt. Col. Sanni Uba, said the missions underscored sustained military pressure on insurgent enclaves across the theatre of operations.
According to him, 15 terrorists were neutralised during a precision raid around Lamusheri Village in Gujba LGA, identified as a key logistics hub for insurgents. Troops of Sector 2, operating under Operation Desert Sanity V and supported by surveillance and reconnaissance assets, reportedly engaged the terrorists in a fierce firefight.
“Despite coming under fire on approach, troops, in synergy with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, outflanked the terrorists and cut off their withdrawal routes,” Uba stated, adding that several insurgents fled with gunshot wounds.
In a separate engagement in Kukawa, 14 terrorists were killed after launching what was described as a coordinated, multi-pronged assault. The attack was repelled with combined ground resistance and air support.
Troops also thwarted an attempted infiltration of FOB Limankara, with no reported casualties or equipment losses on the side of government forces in that encounter.
During follow-up exploitation operations, soldiers recovered 13 AK-47 rifles, 16 loaded magazines, three handheld radios, and other items.
However, one soldier was killed in action during the broader operations, while some equipment was damaged by rocket fire. Injured personnel were evacuated and are reported to be in stable condition.
The military high command commended the troops for their efforts and urged them to sustain the operational momentum in degrading terrorist capabilities in the North-East.
