The Tracy Mcwary Foundation, through its Founder and gender rights advocate Miss Amnesty Nigeria, has formally commended the Abia State Government under the leadership of Alex Otti, for the establishment of the Nchedo Sexual Assault Referral Centre at Aba General Hospital.
In a congratulatory and commendation letter addressed to the Governor, Miss Amnesty Nigeria described the initiative as a “bold and compassionate declaration” that places the protection of women and the girl child at the center of governance in Abia State.
According to the Foundation, the creation of the Nchedo Sexual Assault Referral Centre goes beyond infrastructure, representing a clear institutional stance against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) and a survivor-centered response to a long-standing social and moral crisis.
“By institutionalizing a safe, responsive, and survivor-centered facility, your administration has demonstrated that governance must rise beyond politics and speak directly to the dignity, safety, and fundamental rights of the people,” the letter stated.
The Foundation emphasized that the Centre symbolizes hope for survivors of sexual violence, offering not just medical and psychosocial support, but also justice, protection, and reassurance that their voices matter. It further noted that the Centre sends a strong message that Abia State will no longer tolerate violence against women and girls.
Miss Amnesty Nigeria, who is also the Founder of the Tracy Mcwary Foundation and a leading gender activist, praised Governor Otti’s leadership for prioritizing the safety of the most vulnerable members of society, describing the initiative as a benchmark for other states across Nigeria.
“True leadership is measured by the safety of the most vulnerable. By launching the Nchedo Sexual Assault Referral Centre, Your Excellency has chosen to stand firmly on the side of justice, compassion, and accountability,” the letter read.
The Foundation expressed optimism that the Centre will serve as a catalyst for broader reforms aimed at eradicating GBV, strengthening survivor protection systems, and promoting a society where women and girls can live free from fear, abuse, and silence.
Miss Amnesty Nigeria reaffirmed the Foundation’s commitment to continued partnership with the Abia State Government in advancing human rights, gender equity, and sustainable social protection frameworks.
The Tracy Mcwary Foundation concluded by calling on leaders across Nigeria to emulate Abia State’s example by investing in policies and institutions that uphold the dignity, safety, and future of women and the girl child.
