Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, son of NNPP national leader and former Kano governor Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has resigned from his post as Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development in Kano State. His exit from the Kano State Executive Council comes amid reports that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement personally signed on Monday, Mustapha announced his decision to leave office, thanking the governor and the people of Kano for the opportunity to serve. He described the move as difficult but expressed appreciation for the trust and experience gained during his tenure.
The former commissioner said his decision followed careful consideration, adding that his passion for youth empowerment and sports development in the state remains strong. He noted that his commitment to these causes would continue even outside government.
While he offered prayers and goodwill to the Kano State government and its people, Mustapha did not directly link his resignation to the governor’s reported defection, leaving the specific reasons for his departure unstated.
