Residents of Tingno in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State have been left in shock after police arrested a 29-year-old man, identified as Isiaka Hassan, for the brutal murder of a 5-year-old boy, Abba Bashiru. The suspect allegedly buried the child in a shallow grave after the killing.
The disturbing incident occurred on August 30, 2025. The victim’s mother, Hadiza Bashiru, raised an alarm after her son went missing, noting that he was last seen in the company of Hassan. Her cries for help quickly drew the attention of both locals and security operatives.
Acting on the complaint, the Divisional Police Officer in Tingno led a team that tracked and apprehended the suspect. During questioning, Hassan confessed that he carried out the crime alongside another accomplice who is currently on the run.
The grim discovery of Abba’s remains in a shallow grave plunged the community into mourning. Residents who witnessed the exhumation described the atmosphere as devastating, with many unable to hold back tears.
“This is beyond just murder; it looks like a ritual killing,” said a resident, Ibrahim, while speaking to Chronicles Reporters. “How can an adult end the life of a harmless child and bury him as if he were nothing? We demand justice immediately.”
Another local, Aisha, who broke down in tears, added: “It could have been anyone’s child. What happened to Abba is cruel. The authorities must ensure this man and whoever helped him never go free.”
Reacting to the incident, the Adamawa State Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, directed the State CID to step up efforts in arresting the fleeing accomplice. He assured the public that justice would be pursued without delay.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, described the act as “inhuman and barbaric,” stressing that the Command would spare no effort in ensuring all those involved face the full wrath of the law.
The horrific murder has triggered outrage across Adamawa, with many residents calling for swift prosecution and justice for the slain boy.
