The Kano State Hisbah Board, an Islamic moral enforcement agency, has apprehended 26 women at a hotel in the Kano metropolis over allegations of engaging in immoral behaviour.
The arrest occurred on Saturday after the board received several complaints from residents about questionable activities reportedly taking place at the hotel.
Speaking to PUNCH on Monday, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, the Deputy Commander General of the Hisbah Board, confirmed the development and stated that the operation was carried out with backing from military personnel.
“We sincerely appreciate the military authorities and their respective commanders for the support they extended to us, which made the operation a success,” he stated.
According to him, a number of the arrested individuals were discovered to be intoxicated during the raid. In addition, several cartons of alcoholic beverages were confiscated from the premises.
He urged citizens to continue reporting instances of indecent behaviour, whether occurring in hotels or private residences, so that swift action can be taken by the board.
Dr. Aminuddeen also noted that such operations will remain ongoing as part of the board’s efforts to cleanse the state of acts considered immoral.
