A retired Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Major General Maharazu Tsiga, has been kidnapped by suspected terrorists in Katsina State. Two other individuals were also abducted in the attack.
The assailants stormed Tsiga, the hometown of the retired military officer in Kankara Local Government Area, on Wednesday night. Their primary target was General Tsiga’s residence, where they took him and two others hostage.
A journalist specializing in conflict and crisis reporting in the Northwest, Bakatsine, confirmed the incident. He stated, “Bandits attacked Tsiga town last night and managed to kidnap three individuals, including the former NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General Maharazu Tsiga (retired).”
The news of the abduction was also shared by a popular X user, @northern_trends. The post read: “BREAKING: Retired General Abducted In Katsina. Major-General Maharazu Tsiga (rtd) has reportedly been kidnapped in Tsiga village, Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State.”
When contacted about the situation, the spokesperson for the Katsina State Police Command, DSP Aliyu Abubakar, told Chronicles Reporters that he had yet to receive official details. “I have not been briefed on this matter. I will provide updates as soon as I have the full report,” he stated on Thursday morning.
This abduction comes just weeks after a violent attack on a General Hospital in Kankara Local Government Area. In that incident, terrorists stormed the facility, shot Dr. Murtala Sale Dandashire, and kidnapped at least five people.
Bakatsine, who also reported that attack, shared a post on X along with a picture of the injured doctor. He wrote: “Bandits attacked Kankara General Hospital in Katsina State last night. They shot Dr. Murtala Sale Dandashire and abducted five people from the hospital.”
He further raised concerns over the rising insecurity in the region’s medical facilities. “Security needs to be strengthened in hospitals across Katsina. In the past three months, bandits have invaded at least three hospitals: Kurfi General Hospital, Mai Tsani Hospital in Dutsin-ma LGA, and Kankara General Hospital.”
He also highlighted that Dr. Murtala Sale Dandashire, a native of Kankara LGA, was the best graduating medical student of 2019 from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
