
The Anambra State Police Command has announced the arrest of three suspected criminals believed to be notorious car snatchers. The arrest, which occurred in Awka, the state capital, also led to the recovery of a stolen sports utility vehicle (SUV).
According to a statement released on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the suspects were apprehended on Wednesday by operatives of the Special Anti-Cultism Squad (SPACS) at Enugwu Ukwu.
Ikenga disclosed that the suspects were intercepted during a routine patrol at Kwata Junction in Awka. The operatives recovered a black Lexus 330 SUV, which had no license plates, and was reportedly stolen.
In his statement, Ikenga said, “During interrogation, the suspects, identified as Ifesinachi Okonkwo (22), Chisom Okafor (20), and Oderah Ebenezer (20), confessed to stealing the car at Isuaniocha Village in Awka North. They further admitted to being part of a criminal gang that has been terrorizing residents of Awka.”
The police urged anyone who may have lost a vehicle matching the description to visit the office of the Police Public Relations Officer in Awka. The victim must provide valid proof of ownership for verification and possible retrieval of the vehicle.
