The African Action Congress (AAC) has accused more than 100 suspected political thugs of attacking its presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, National Chairman, Pastor Samuel Ajeigbe, and other members of their entourage in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.

The party alleged that the attackers, reportedly led by one Sola Adenijo, popularly known as Solar, stormed Tawakal-Tu Restaurant on Friday, October 30, 2026, where Sowore and his team were attacked, harassed and robbed.

In a statement issued on Saturday, October 31, and signed by Michael Sowore, Esq., on behalf of the party, the AAC condemned the incident, describing it as a violation of the constitutional rights of its members and an attack on democratic principles.

According to the party, Sowore was in Ekiti State as a duly registered participant in the Ikogosi Marathon and was therefore exercising his constitutional right to freedom of movement.

The AAC referenced Section 41(1) of the 1999 Constitution, as amended, which guarantees Nigerians the right to move freely and reside in any part of the country, regardless of their political affiliations or beliefs.

The party called on relevant security agencies and authorities to immediately investigate the incident, identify those involved and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice.

It further expressed concern over what it described as repeated cases of harassment and intimidation against Sowore, warning that such actions should not be allowed to become acceptable in a democratic society.

The AAC also urged the authorities to provide adequate security for its presidential candidate, his associates and other members of his team during public engagements and movements across the country.

Reaffirming its position, the party said it would resist any attempt to intimidate, suppress or unlawfully restrict Sowore’s political activities, insisting that all such resistance would be pursued through lawful and constitutional means.

The latest allegations follow reports of an attack on Sowore and members of his delegation at Tawakal-Tu Restaurant in Ado-Ekiti, during which the party claimed that armed individuals assaulted members of the team and damaged property.
