Gwagwalada and the wider Federal Capital Territory are set to celebrate another moment of local football pride as promising Gbari footballer, Mohammad Garba, is expected to feature for Slovakian club AS Trenčín.
The development was announced by Gwagwalada-based comedian and master of ceremonies, Jahboi, who took to Facebook to call on residents and football lovers to support the young player as he takes another step in his football career.
According to Jahboi, Garba, whom he proudly described as “our legend” and a “Gbari boy from Paikon Kore,” was scheduled to play for AS Trenčín in the Slovak top division on September 5, 2026.
“Gwagwalada to the world,” Jahboi wrote, urging members of the community to create time to watch and support Garba’s performance.
The post has drawn attention to the growing pool of football talent emerging from communities across Gwagwalada, particularly Paikon Kore, while highlighting the possibility of young players from grassroots communities making their mark on the international stage.
Garba’s reported involvement with AS Trenčín represents a significant moment not only for the player but also for his community, with supporters hoping that his journey will inspire more young footballers in Gwagwalada and the FCT to pursue their dreams despite limited opportunities at the grassroots level.
For many residents, the story goes beyond one football match. It is a reminder that talent exists in abundance within local communities and that, with the right opportunities, exposure and support, young Nigerians can progress from grassroots football to professional leagues abroad.
As Mohammad Garba takes to the pitch in Slovakia, supporters from Paikon Kore, Gwagwalada and beyond will be watching with pride, hoping to see the young Gbari footballer deliver a performance that further announces his arrival on the international football scene.
From Paikon Kore to Slovakia, the message from his supporters is simple: Gwagwalada is watching, and the world is waiting.
