Social media security commentator D English Alhaji has alleged that a man identified as Bashir, whom he described as a suspected terrorist and bandit associate, was seen inside a residence he claimed belongs to Senator Shehu Buba Umar, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District in the Nigerian Senate.
D English Alhaji made the allegation in a video circulating on social media, where he displayed footage that he claimed showed Bashir inside the house and urged Nigerian security agencies and media organisations to investigate the footage and establish the ownership of the property.
The latest allegation is part of an ongoing controversy involving Senator Buba and claims linking him to suspected bandits. Buba has repeatedly denied the allegations, describing some of the videos circulating online as manipulated, fabricated or taken out of context. He has also called for the allegations to be subjected to proper investigation.
In the latest video, D English Alhaji appealed to SaharaReporters, News Central, Channels Television, Arise News and other media organisations to investigate the footage.
Speaking in Pidgin English, he said the public deserved answers over the identity of the man shown in the footage and the ownership of the property where he was allegedly seen.
“Nigerians, please come. SaharaReporters, please come. News Central, please come.
“Arise, please come. Channels Television, please come. Please, everyone, come.
“We need answers. This matter is not over. I beg you, please come.”
The commentator subsequently displayed the footage and identified the individual shown as Bashir.
“Nigerians, please come. Come. Now, this is Bashir in the house of the alleged senator,” he said.
“I have obtained the full video. You know the story. If they hide them, will we bring them out? This is Bashir in the house of the alleged senator.”
D English Alhaji also drew attention to what he claimed was an injury affecting one of the man’s hands.
“If you watch this video closely, you will see that one of his hands doesn’t move. One of his hands doesn’t move. Only one hand doesn’t move,” he said.
“You don’t understand? Now, remember I told you about Hassan. I told you that hand doesn’t move. Now, the Nigerian Army fired at him.
“Now, during the gun battle, there was an exchange of gunfire. What happened with the Nigerian Army? The Nigerian Army fired at him by hand. You don’t understand? That hand doesn’t move.”
The commentator then questioned the ownership of the property where the man was allegedly filmed and called for an official investigation.
“Now, who owns this house? We need to know who owns this house. Nigerians, we cannot just allow this matter to pass like that. No, no.
“SSS, DSS, OSS, BPP, WSS. We need an investigation. Who owns this house? We cannot allow this matter to slide.
“No. Haba. That is what we are going to do.”
He argued that the allegation was too serious to be ignored and called on security agencies to establish the facts surrounding the footage.
“If you people allow this matter to slide like this, the blood of innocent Nigerians will be upon your heads. No. This matter, we must follow it to the end,” he said.
“Who owns this house? Because if it were me who had this house where Bashir was, they would have arrested me a long time ago.
“If this house belonged to an ordinary Nigerian, they would have arrested the person a long time ago.
“So, what is a terrorist doing in your house? So, who owns this house? We need to know who owns this house. We need answers. If we don’t know, we’re going to take it international.”
D English Alhaji further said he would seek international attention over the allegation if Nigerian authorities failed to investigate the matter.
“We’re going to the FBI. Because, look, people have died. Go to my Telegram; the link is under my comment section,” he said.
“Go and see the bodies of DSS officers. Go and see the bodies of Nigerian Army personnel. Go and see the bodies of Nigerian police officers.
“Go and see the bodies of innocent Nigerians. Babies, wives, husbands, uncles, brothers. Go to my Telegram and see it.
“It’s there under the comment section of this video. Go there and see for yourself. Nigerians, help me.
“Help me. We need answers. Share this video.
“Make this matter trend now.
“Channels Television, I beg you. News Central, I beg you. Arise.
“SaharaReporters, my people, I beg you. We need answers.”
The commentator also displayed another section of the footage which he claimed showed the same man in a bush environment alongside armed individuals.
He described the individual as a bandit and alleged that the same person was subsequently seen inside the residence he linked to Senator Buba.
“This is Bashir in the bush as a bandit.
“See him here. He is a bandit. And this is him in the house of the alleged senator.
“Who owns this house? Please. We need answers.”
D English Alhaji urged Nigerians to demand an investigation, repeatedly questioning why the identity of the person shown in the footage and the ownership of the property had not been established.
“No, now. This cannot be. We’re not going to live like that. No, no, no, no, no.
“It cannot be. Nigerians, let us rise up. Please, rise up.
“Is this not clear evidence? Why don’t you… Who owns the house? Who owns the house? Who owns this house?”
He further alleged that the man shown in the footage was responsible for attacks that killed Nigerians and security personnel.
“This person here is a terrorist. This person is a terrorist.
“And he has taken the lives of Nigerians. He has killed innocent Nigerians. He has killed Nigerian military personnel.
“He killed Nigerian police officers. He killed Nigerian Army personnel. He killed Nigerian DSS officers.
“He killed innocent Nigerian fathers and mothers. What do they call them? Babies. Uncles.
“Wives. Arewa. Arewa people.”
The commentator ended by calling for Nigerians to demand answers and warning that he would continue releasing what he described as additional evidence.
“With the name of Allah and His Prophet Muhammad S.A.W., rise up. We need answers.
“Who owns this house? Who owns this house? It’s not going to end like this. It’s not going to stop here. More evidence will come.”
The fresh allegation has not been independently verified by security agencies or established by the footage itself. A report published on September 23 said the claims concerning Bashir’s identity, alleged injury and presence at a residence linked to Buba had not been officially confirmed.
Senator Shehu Buba has consistently rejected allegations linking him to banditry or terrorism and has said viral videos used against him were manipulated or improperly presented. In earlier responses, he said one widely circulated set of videos combined unrelated footage, including footage of Hajj returnees who visited his residence in 2023, with a separate video involving people displaying passports.
The senator has also said he voluntarily made himself available to security agencies, including the Department of State Services, the Nigeria Police Force and the Defence Intelligence Agency, for investigation into the allegations.
The latest claims therefore remain allegations pending independent verification of the footage, identification of the man shown as Bashir, confirmation of the property’s ownership and any findings by the relevant Nigerian security authorities.
