The Special Adviser on Recreational and Sport Development to the Executive Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, Barr. Babatunde Akintade Nelson, popularly known as Bucknor, has expressed profound appreciation to council leaders, councillors, football stakeholders, community leaders and other distinguished guests for their support towards the successful staging of the 100 Days in Office Football Competition in the area council.
The appreciation followed the grand finale of the tournament, which brought together football stakeholders, youths and residents from across the 10 electoral wards of Gwagwalada Area Council.
The competition was organised by the Gwagwalada Football Council in collaboration with the Office of the Special Adviser on Recreational and Sport Development as part of activities marking the 100 days in office of the administration of the Executive Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Special Adviser, Barr. Babatunde Akintade Nelson thanked the Executive Chairman of Gwagwalada Area Council, the Chief of Staff to the Executive Chairman, Hon. Abdallah Yunusa Umar, popularly known as Abuja, the Personal Assistant to the Executive Chairman, Comr. Yunus Abu-Ammar Idris, the Chief Protocol Officer, Hon. Salihu Adamu, as well as all serving councillors, supervisory councillors, Senior Special Assistants, Special Assistants, football stakeholders, community leaders and other guests who attended the grand finale.
The Special Adviser said the presence, encouragement and unwavering support of the dignitaries and stakeholders contributed immensely to the success of the tournament.
According to him, the overwhelming turnout at the grand finale demonstrated the collective commitment of stakeholders to youth engagement, sports development, peace and unity within Gwagwalada Area Council.
The organisers also appreciated individuals and organisations that contributed in various ways towards the success of the competition, noting that their support provided young football talents across the 10 electoral wards with an opportunity to showcase their abilities.
The tournament, according to the organisers, also reinforced the importance of grassroots sports as a platform for youth development, community participation and the discovery of emerging talents.
The Special Adviser further said the successful conclusion of the competition had inspired young talents across Gwagwalada and strengthened the resolve of the organisers to create more opportunities for youths through sports.
He expressed optimism that the collaboration between the Gwagwalada Football Council, the Office of the Special Adviser and other stakeholders would continue beyond the tournament, with more initiatives aimed at promoting football excellence and youth development in the area council.
The organisers said they looked forward to greater collaboration with stakeholders as they continue to use sports as a means of promoting peace, unity, talent development and community growth across Gwagwalada Area Council.
