The African Action Congress (AAC) candidate for the Otukpo/Ohimini Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Engr. Ina Okopi-Agu, has inaugurated his “RESET2027” campaign organisation with a pledge to tackle insecurity, boost agriculture, improve healthcare and infrastructure, and create opportunities for young people across the constituency.
The inauguration ceremony, according to a statement made available to ChroniclesReporters on Saturday, was held on Thursday at Akalo Hotel, Ogobia-Ugboju, in Otukpo Local Government Area of Benue State.
The event brought together party leaders, campaign officials, supporters and grassroots representatives from Otukpo and Ohimini Local Government Areas as the AAC candidate formally unveiled the structure that will coordinate his campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
During the inauguration, Inalegwu Idoga of Ohimini Local Government Area was sworn in as the Director-General of the campaign organisation, while Comrade Abel Obogwu of Otukpo Local Government Area was appointed Deputy Director-General.
Chief Uloko Ameh, popularly known as Solidek, also assumed office as Campaign Secretary.
In a bid to strengthen the campaign’s grassroots structure, 23 ward coordinators drawn from across Otukpo and Ohimini LGAs were also inaugurated to coordinate mobilisation and campaign activities within their respective wards.
Addressing party leaders and supporters at the event, Okopi-Agu described the campaign council as a grassroots movement built on the trust of the people, urging the newly appointed coordinators to take his message of renewal to communities and polling units across the constituency.
“Our people have been failed for too long,” Okopi-Agu said.
“We cannot talk of development while our communities live in fear. My priority is clear: we will push for real security presence, invest in agriculture as the backbone of our local economy, healthcare, sustainable power, and create opportunities for our young people to thrive.”
The candidate’s focus on insecurity comes against the backdrop of a deadly attack on communities in Otukpo approximately one month before the inauguration, which reportedly resulted in several fatalities and the displacement of numerous families.
Okopi-Agu said tackling insecurity would form the foundation of his legislative agenda, stressing that development could not be meaningfully pursued in an environment where residents and communities remain vulnerable to attacks.
He also identified agriculture as a major area requiring urgent attention, describing it as the backbone of the local economy and an important source of livelihood for residents across Otukpo and Ohimini.
Beyond security and agriculture, the AAC House of Representatives candidate listed healthcare, sustainable electricity and youth empowerment among the areas he intends to prioritise if elected.
He said the constituency requires practical interventions that would improve the living conditions of residents while creating an environment where young people can acquire skills, find opportunities and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.
Okopi-Agu further emphasised that the campaign was not centred on an individual but on a collective effort to bring about change in the constituency.
“This is not about one man,” he said. “It is about all of us taking back our future.”
The candidate charged members of the campaign organisation to remain committed to the grassroots, listen to the concerns of residents and communicate his vision directly to the electorate.
Following the inauguration, the AAC flagbearer announced that the campaign team would commence direct community-level engagements across the ward structures in both Otukpo and Ohimini Local Government Areas.
The engagements are expected to form a major part of the campaign’s mobilisation strategy as the AAC candidate seeks to take his RESET2027 message directly to voters ahead of the 2027 House of Representatives election.
The newly inaugurated campaign structure, comprising the Director-General, Deputy Director-General, Campaign Secretary and 23 ward coordinators, is expected to coordinate the party’s grassroots activities across the federal constituency as the election approaches.
