A 40-year-old man, Peter Sinamai, has been arrested by the Adamawa State Police Command for allegedly murdering his biological father and dumping his corpse in a village well in Sangere, Gombi Local Government Area of the state.
The shocking incident came to light following a report received by the police, prompting operatives of the Command to launch an immediate investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged killing.
According to the Command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje, preliminary investigations indicated that Sinamai allegedly killed his father before disposing of the body in a well within the community in what investigators suspect was an attempt to conceal the crime.
“The victim’s body has been recovered from the well and deposited in a mortuary for an autopsy,” Nguroje said.
The recovery of the corpse has intensified the investigation as detectives work to establish the events leading to the alleged murder and determine the motive behind the killing.
The Commissioner of Police, Kabiru Umar Hassan, has ordered a discreet and thorough investigation into the incident, directing investigators to uncover the full circumstances surrounding the death.
The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be charged before a court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
Condemning the alleged killing as reprehensible, the Commissioner assured members of the public that the Command would pursue justice and ensure that anyone found culpable is made to face the law.
He also urged residents to resist the temptation to settle family disputes through violence, stressing the need to seek lawful intervention whenever conflicts become difficult to resolve.
“Rather than resorting to violence, people should seek appropriate intervention whenever conflicts arise,” the Commissioner said.
The police have consequently appealed to members of the community to provide relevant information that could assist investigators in unraveling the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder.
The suspect is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.
