Thailand has donated 12 metric tonnes of rice worth approximately $22,000 to support vulnerable Nigerians battling worsening food insecurity, particularly in conflict-affected communities across the North-East.

The donation, presented through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), comes at a critical time as humanitarian agencies continue to raise alarm over escalating hunger, displacement, and economic hardship affecting millions of households across the country.

According to aid officials, the rice will be distributed to some of the most vulnerable families in the North-East, where years of insurgency, insecurity, climate-related challenges, and rising food prices have severely undermined livelihoods and access to adequate nutrition.

The gesture by the Thai government underscores growing international concern over Nigeria’s humanitarian situation. Recent assessments by relief agencies indicate that millions of people remain at risk of acute food shortages, with women and children among the hardest hit.

Representatives of the World Food Programme commended Thailand’s contribution, noting that every intervention is crucial in helping vulnerable communities cope with the harsh realities of hunger and displacement. They stressed that sustained international support remains vital to addressing the scale of the crisis and preventing further deterioration of living conditions.

As food inflation continues to strain household incomes and humanitarian needs rise across several regions, the donation serves as a timely intervention and a symbol of global solidarity with Nigerians facing the daily struggle to secure their next meal.
