A shocking case of alleged murder has sent waves of grief and outrage across communities in Anambra and Enugu States after a young nurse, identified as Chinasa, was reportedly killed and buried in a shallow grave by her boyfriend following the rejection of his marriage proposal.

According to information circulating on social media and attributed to Senior Pastor Okezie James Atani on X (formerly Twitter), the tragic incident began on June 3, 2026, when Chinasa, said to be from Enugu Ezike in Enugu State and residing in Umusiome, Nkpor, visited her boyfriend, Ifeanyi, popularly known as “Ifee,” who is reportedly from Nkanu in Enugu State.

Sources alleged that Chinasa had accepted an invitation to spend the night at Ifeanyi’s residence located in Isingwu Nkpor Agu. However, what was expected to be a routine visit allegedly turned into a fatal encounter.

It was gathered that the suspect allegedly murdered the young woman after she declined his marriage proposal. Following the alleged killing, he reportedly buried her body in a shallow grave within the compound where he lived in an apparent attempt to conceal the crime.

Reports further indicate that after Chinasa’s disappearance, efforts were allegedly made to create the impression that she had been kidnapped. However, family members reportedly became suspicious and began questioning the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.

The victim’s siblings allegedly believed that the boyfriend knew more about the incident than he was willing to disclose. Their suspicions reportedly intensified, leading them to seek assistance from a local vigilante operative identified as Obalum.

The breakthrough reportedly came when the suspect allegedly attempted to flee. He was said to have been apprehended with the assistance of the vigilante group and subsequently handed over to officers at the Ogidi Police Station.

Sources claim that during interrogation, the suspect eventually confessed to the crime, leading investigators to the location where the victim’s remains had allegedly been buried.

The remains of Chinasa were reportedly exhumed from the shallow grave and deposited at the Iyi Enu Mortuary pending further investigations and possible forensic examinations.

The suspect has since been transferred to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Awka, where authorities are said to be continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the alleged murder.

The tragic development has sparked widespread reactions online, with many Nigerians demanding justice for the deceased and calling for stronger measures to address violence against women and cases involving intimate partners.

As of the time of filing this report, police authorities had yet to issue a detailed public statement on the matter, while investigations remain ongoing.

Chronicles Reporters will continue to monitor developments and provide updates as more official information becomes available.
