A wave of outrage has swept across parts of Bauchi State following allegations of police brutality involving one Kamilu Lanzai, who is currently battling for his life after reportedly being beaten by a police officer and allegedly abandoned by the roadside after being taken to a police station over a disputed ₦600 debt.

According to eyewitness accounts and a disturbing video now circulating among residents, Kamilu has remained unconscious since yesterday afternoon, raising serious concerns over the extent of injuries allegedly inflicted on him during the incident.

Family sources disclosed that after he was discovered in critical condition, relatives rushed him to a Primary Health Care Centre (PHCC) for urgent medical attention. However, due to the severity of his condition and the inability of the facility to manage his injuries, he was referred to the General Hospital in Dambam Local Government Area.

Medical personnel at the General Hospital reportedly stabilized him briefly before transferring him to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Azare, for advanced treatment and diagnostic scans. Unfortunately, due to technical issues with scanning equipment at the facility, he was again referred to the Trauma Centre at Teaching Hospital Bauchi, where he is currently receiving specialist care.

The circumstances surrounding his condition have triggered anger among residents and civil society advocates, who described the incident as a gross abuse of power and a direct assault on justice and human dignity.

Community members insist that no Nigerian citizen deserves such treatment, particularly over an alleged debt dispute involving as little as ₦600. Many have condemned what they described as a dangerous culture of intimidation and unchecked brutality allegedly perpetrated by some security personnel.

Calls are now mounting for immediate intervention by relevant security authorities, including a full-scale investigation into the conduct of the officer accused of assaulting the victim.

Residents and concerned citizens are also urging traditional rulers, community leaders, and state authorities to ensure that justice is neither delayed nor denied, stressing that accountability must be upheld to restore public confidence in law enforcement institutions.

As pressure continues to build, many are watching closely to see whether authorities will act decisively or allow another troubling allegation of abuse to fade without consequence.

For the people demanding justice, one message remains clear: Kamilu Lanzai’s case must be treated as a priority, and anyone found culpable must face the full weight of disciplinary and legal action.
