A group of youths in Kogi Central Senatorial District has raised concerns over the absence of former Kogi State governor, Yahaya Bello, from the screening exercise conducted by the All Progressives Congress for aspirants seeking the party’s senatorial ticket.
The youths alleged that while other aspirants presented themselves before the screening panel, Bello was reportedly sighted in Lagos during the exercise.
The development, according to the group, has triggered questions over compliance with the party’s screening guidelines.
In a statement made available to journalists, the group warned the APC leadership against issuing clearance to any aspirant who failed to personally appear for the mandatory screening exercise. They argued that granting waiver or special treatment to any individual could damage the credibility of the party’s internal democratic process.
The youths further stressed that fairness, transparency, and equal treatment of all aspirants must be upheld to sustain confidence among party members and supporters across Kogi Central.
They therefore called on the party’s screening committee and national leadership to ensure strict adherence to laid-down rules in the interest of justice and party integrity.
