The National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress has approved a waiver exempting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu from participating in the party’s screening exercise ahead of the upcoming presidential primaries.
The decision was reached during the party’s 188th NWC meeting held in Abuja on May 6, 2026.
According to a statement issued by the APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the party said President Tinubu would be regarded as duly screened in line with the provisions of the APC constitution.
The party explained that the waiver was granted under the powers of the NWC to supervise party primaries and issue special exemptions when considered necessary in the interest of the party.
The APC leadership also pointed to the widespread endorsements already received by the president from key stakeholders within the ruling party, including the Progressive Governors Forum, members of the National Assembly, and other party organs during the APC National Summit held in May 2025.
According to the statement, the party considered it unnecessary for Tinubu to physically appear before another screening panel, noting that he had already undergone screening before emerging as the APC presidential candidate during the 2022 primary elections.
The ruling party maintained that the decision reflects confidence in Tinubu’s leadership and his position as the party’s incumbent leader ahead of the next electoral cycle.
