‎The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has launched a scathing attack on the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing the Federal Government of deepening hardship, poverty and insecurity across Nigeria while millions of citizens struggle daily to survive.

‎In a strongly worded statement, the opposition party said Nigerians are currently facing one of the most difficult periods in the country’s democratic history, blaming the government for rising inflation, worsening food insecurity, collapsing businesses and growing hopelessness among citizens.

‎The party also criticised recent remarks credited to President Tinubu about the opposition, insisting that ordinary Nigerians are more concerned about hunger, insecurity and economic survival than political rhetoric and self-congratulations from government officials.

‎According to the ADC, it was “shocking and disappointing” that the current administration would attempt to dismiss opposition voices despite the severe economic realities facing millions of Nigerians.

‎“The African Democratic Congress (ADC) is genuinely shocked and saddened that President Bola Tinubu, whose administration has presided over one of the most painful periods in Nigeria’s democratic history, would speak so dismissively about the opposition and the Nigerian people while awarding himself a medal for one of the most catastrophic economic policies in recent history,” the statement read.

‎The opposition party argued that worsening food insecurity and economic hardship across the country directly contradict claims that the opposition lacks ideas or direction.

‎“It is both ironic and tragic that a government under whose watch nearly 35 million Nigerians are now projected to face acute food insecurity in 2026 would accuse the opposition of lacking ideas or vision,” the party stated.

‎The ADC further accused the Tinubu administration of failing to protect citizens from the devastating impact of inflation and rising living costs, saying millions of Nigerians now live in fear, uncertainty and economic frustration.

‎“This is a government under which inflation has devastated household incomes, food prices have become unbearable, insecurity has continued to spread across the country, and millions of Nigerians now live with a level of economic anxiety and hopelessness never before experienced in recent national history,” the statement added.

‎The party said the worsening economic situation has forced many Nigerian families to reduce meals while businesses continue shutting down under unbearable financial pressure.

‎It also expressed concern over the growing insecurity affecting farming communities across the country, noting that farmers are increasingly unable to access their farmlands due to banditry, kidnappings and violent attacks.

‎“Under President Tinubu’s administration, millions of families have been forced to reduce meals, businesses are shutting down daily under unbearable economic pressure, and farmers across many parts of the country can no longer safely access their farmlands because of banditry, kidnappings and violent attacks,” the ADC said.

‎The opposition party maintained that Nigerians are no longer interested in political speeches but are demanding practical solutions to the worsening economic crisis.

‎“President Tinubu must understand that Nigerians are no longer interested in speeches or political grandstanding,” the statement noted.

‎According to the ADC, citizens are now asking difficult questions about the rising cost of living, insecurity and the increasing level of poverty despite repeated promises of economic reform and recovery by the Federal Government.

‎“Nigerians are asking simple questions: Why is food unaffordable? Why are businesses collapsing? Why are citizens increasingly unsafe? Why are more Nigerians falling into poverty despite endless promises of reform and recovery?” the party queried.

‎The ADC insisted that the opposition remains committed to providing what it described as an alternative direction capable of moving Nigeria forward.

‎“The ADC therefore says this clearly and unequivocally to President Tinubu: the opposition will move Nigeria forward,” the statement declared.

‎The party warned that Nigeria cannot continue on what it described as a disastrous path of economic hardship, worsening insecurity, institutional decline and growing hopelessness without measurable progress.

‎It added that Nigerians deserve leadership focused on improving the welfare, security and economic wellbeing of citizens rather than political propaganda.
