The political atmosphere across the Abuja South Federal Constituency erupted into dramatic celebrations in the early hours of Sunday after the Executive Chairman of Kwali Area Council, Danladi Chiya, emerged victorious in the fiercely contested All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election for the Abuja South House of Representatives seat.

The keenly watched primary election, which stretched deep into the night and kept party loyalists, stakeholders and political observers awake across Kwali, Kuje, Gwagwalada and Abaji Area Councils, ended with Hon. Chiya securing the highest number of votes cast by delegates, defeating his closest rival, Abubakar Jibrin Giri, alongside other aspirants in the race.

The outcome immediately triggered jubilation among APC supporters, youth groups, women organizations and indigenous political blocs across the constituency, with many describing the result as a major political turning point ahead of the forthcoming general elections.

Party faithful who monitored the exercise from different collation points across the constituency described the contest as one of the most intense and emotionally charged APC primaries ever witnessed in Abuja South politics, as supporters of different aspirants mounted pressure and mobilized heavily throughout the process.

Political analysts and grassroots mobilizers within the Federal Capital Territory noted that Hon. Chiya’s victory did not come as a surprise to many who have closely followed his political rise and grassroots influence over the years, particularly within indigenous communities.

Observers further argued that the Kwali chairman’s victory reflects growing confidence in his political structure, leadership style and longstanding relationship with party delegates and stakeholders across the four Area Councils making up the constituency.

Supporters of the APC flag bearer described the victory as “the people’s mandate finally speaking,” while commending delegates for what they called a transparent and democratic exercise.

Across Gwagwalada, celebrations reportedly continued into the morning as supporters and political associates of Hon. Chiya trooped into major gathering points, praising what they termed a victory for unity, grassroots politics and indigenous representation.

The victory is also being interpreted in several political circles as a further consolidation of Hon. Chiya’s growing influence within FCT politics, especially under the expanding political structure popularly associated with the Rainbow Coalition reportedly championed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.

Residents and political stakeholders across Abuja South are now expected to shift attention toward the main general election campaign, as the APC candidate prepares to fly the party’s flag in what many analysts predict could become one of the most competitive House of Representatives races in the Federal Capital Territory.

Youth groups and women organizations under the APC umbrella have continued to express optimism that Hon. Chiya’s emergence could usher in what they described as inclusive representation, stronger grassroots participation and effective service delivery at the National Assembly if elected.

The development has already intensified political conversations across the Abuja South Federal Constituency, with many party members insisting that the APC has now positioned itself for a major showdown in the battle for the House of Representatives seat.
