Scores of members of the Take-It-Back (TIB) Movement on Wednesday stormed the Warri Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force in Delta State in a furious protest over the alleged extrajudicial killing of a 28-year-old man, Mene Ogidi, by a police officer identified as Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman.
The protesters, who gathered in large numbers at the command headquarters in Warri, demanded immediate justice for the deceased, insisting that the police authorities must take full responsibility for what they described as a ācold-blooded executionā that reportedly occurred in Effurun, Delta State.
Chanting solidarity songs and carrying placards with inscriptions condemning police brutality, the demonstrators accused security operatives of repeated unlawful killings of civilians without accountability, warning that the continued silence of authorities only deepens public anger and distrust in law enforcement institutions.
According to accounts circulating from eyewitness reports and video evidence, Mene Ogidi was allegedly shot in broad daylight despite being restrained with his hands tied behind his back. The incident, which has since gone viral on social media, has triggered widespread condemnation across the country.
In a disturbing video reportedly shared by Inside_Delta on Instagram and reviewed by multiple observers, the young man is seen pleading desperately for his life, insisting he would cooperate fully with officers and provide information if spared.
āOfficer, I beg, I will tell you everything. It was my friend that deceived me,ā the victim is heard saying in the footage as he remains visibly helpless and restrained.
Despite his repeated pleas, one of the officers is seen shooting him in the leg at close range. Witnesses say the victim continued to cry out in pain, insisting on his innocence and offering to lead the officers to any location or person relevant to their inquiries.
āI will carry you go the place. I donāt know anything concern it,ā he reportedly pleaded repeatedly, as bystanders watched in shock.
The situation reportedly escalated further when, moments later, the officer allegedly fired another shot at close range while the victim remained restrained and defenseless, leading to his death.
The killing has sparked outrage among civil rights groups and youth movements, with the Take-It-Back Movement calling for an immediate, independent, and transparent investigation into the incident. The group also demanded that the Inspector-General of Police take decisive action against all officers involved, insisting that justice must not be delayed or compromised.
Human rights advocates have also renewed calls for urgent reforms within the Nigeria Police Force, describing the incident as yet another grim reminder of unchecked brutality and systemic abuse of power.
As tension continues to rise in Delta State and beyond, many Nigerians are demanding accountability, warning that failure to act decisively could further erode public confidence in law enforcement agencies already struggling with credibility concerns.
