The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State has launched an electronic membership registration drive targeting over four million new members ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The initiative, which covers all 244 wards across the state’s 23 local government areas, is designed to boost the party’s grassroots presence and strengthen its political base. Both new and existing members are expected to register through the digital platform.
Speaking during a “train-the-trainers” session in Sokoto, former state PDP secretary, Kabiru Aliyu, said the party aims to enroll at least 20,000 members per ward. He described the exercise as a major step toward repositioning the party for future elections.
Aliyu commended the PDP leadership for introducing the nationwide registration effort, noting that it would enhance the party’s chances in the 2027 polls.
Also speaking, co-chairperson of the registration committee, Zainab Dogon-Daji, said the training was designed to equip participants with the technical skills needed to implement the process effectively. She added that similar training would be extended to ward-level officials across the state.
Dogon-Daji noted that the digital system would improve transparency, data management, and accuracy of the party’s membership records, while urging residents to participate actively.
Former governorship candidate, Dahiru Yusuf Yabo, also called on citizens to take part in the exercise, stressing its importance in ensuring political inclusion ahead of the elections.
Other stakeholders, including Hayatu Tafiya, encouraged mass participation, saying it would further strengthen the PDP’s structure in the state.
The move signals early mobilisation by the PDP as political parties begin positioning ahead of the 2027 general elections.
