Traffic came to a standstill along the Maraba–Nyanya corridor in the Federal Capital Territory on Tuesday after a severe rainstorm damaged the newly completed Kugbo Bus Terminal.
The terminal, constructed under the supervision of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, suffered partial roof collapse as strong winds scattered debris across the roadway, leaving commuters stranded and forcing many to walk long distances.
Located along a key transport route, the Kugbo Bus Terminal is part of a broader FCT initiative to modernize urban transit and reduce congestion in the capital. Though the terminal has not yet begun full commercial operations, it represents a significant investment in infrastructure under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
In May 2024, the Federal Executive Council approved N51 billion for the construction of three major FCT bus terminals kugbo, Mabushi, and the Central Business District contracted to Planet Projects Nigeria Limited. While the cost of the Kugbo terminal is included in the overall sum, no separate figure has been disclosed.
The storm has raised concerns about the structural resilience of recently completed infrastructure and disrupted daily commutes for thousands of residents.
