Supporters and leaders of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) have mobilised in Abuja to protest the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over its handling of the partyâs ongoing leadership crisis.
The protest, centred around Maitama in the Federal Capital Territory, is expected to draw prominent political figures, including Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
The demonstration follows INECâs decision to remove the names of key party figures, including David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola, from its official portal due to an unresolved court dispute over the partyâs leadership.
INEC had earlier announced that it would suspend recognition of all factions within the ADC pending the outcome of the case before the court, citing a directive to maintain the status quo.
In response, Obi called on Nigerians to join what he described as a broader effort to defend democracy, warning against the emergence of a one-party system in the country.
The electoral body stated that its actions were guided by a Court of Appeal order instructing all parties to refrain from steps that could prejudice ongoing legal proceedings.
However, the decision has triggered backlash from opposition figures and supporters, who accuse the government of undermining political pluralism by allegedly deepening internal divisions within opposition parties.
