Suspected insurgents launched a late-night हमला on Kwapul community in Chibok Local Government Area of Borno State, setting a church and several homes ablaze just hours before Easter Sunday.
Residents said the attackers struck on Saturday night, operating into the early hours of Sunday in what appeared to be a coordinated assault on the predominantly Christian settlement. Although no fatalities were reported, the ആക്രമണം left many families displaced and sparked renewed fears over the safety of rural communities.
Locals lamented that the assailants reportedly operated for hours without any resistance, highlighting ongoing concerns about limited security presence in remote areas despite years of counterinsurgency operations in the region.
The incident comes during the Easter period, a time when Christian communities have historically faced heightened threats in parts of northeastern Nigeria. Similar attacks in recent years across Borno and neighboring states have targeted churches, homes, and worshippers, raising alarm over recurring patterns of violence.
Chibok remains a symbol of Nigeria’s security challenges following the Chibok schoolgirls abduction, when more than 270 schoolgirls were taken from their school, drawing global outrage. While some of the victims have since been rescued or escaped, others are still unaccounted for.
Community leaders have called on the Nigerian government and security agencies to act swiftly to prevent further attacks, warning that continued inaction could worsen the humanitarian situation and embolden armed groups operating in the المنطقة.
