Plans by Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, to defect from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have reportedly collapsed following disagreements over terms of entry.

The Chairman of the PDP in Bauchi State, Samaila Burga, disclosed this on Saturday, stating that negotiations broke down due to unresolved issues surrounding power-sharing arrangements and political control.

According to Burga, the party leadership in the state rejected what it considered unfavourable conditions, insisting that any move to the APC must not undermine its existing structure or influence.

He described the terms proposed by the APC as “cancerous,” stressing that the PDP would not rush into any agreement that could weaken its political base in Bauchi.

Burga also claimed that some governors who previously defected to the APC are now facing regrets, alleging they lost significant control in their respective states after joining the ruling party.

Following the failed negotiations, he noted that the PDP remains open to exploring alternative alliances, including possible collaboration with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which has reportedly shown interest.

However, sources suggest that Governor Mohammed may be cautious about that option due to his strained relationship with Atiku Abubakar, as well as internal challenges within the ADC.

With the 2027 general elections approaching, the political direction of Bauchi State remains uncertain as consultations continue among key stakeholders.
